Volo and Dion - Greece

Volo was something unexpected for us, a nice town, but what we not waited to find was a super new tourist center with free Internet and helpful people and I managed to post my last dairies. The Greek language is a problem so different from other.
Well next stop Dion, a tourist place also different from waited, a modern village with beautiful houses and to day Sunday very calm. The site is a big park and now dressed in autumn colors.

Greece - Acropolis

From Delphi we went to Elefsina where we found a nice beach fore a rest. In the proper town we looked for an internet bar, I managed to send some photos but as always the text was not possible because the CP was speaking Greece and nobody could help me, at the night I was promised some help but then there was a black out. Next morning it was Sunday ,to making things worth it was raining and when we resolved to take off the BB could not start, a luck was that a car parked just behind had a friend who spoke English and willing to help.

And then we took to Athens to fight with some traffic jams, but the main problem was the batteries, the end was that we parked in front off a Mercedes-Benz agency and waited to the next morning hoping for some help. What a night? With a constant traffic stream running along. What I needed was workshop who could charge all the batteries fore a long time. The M.B gave me an address, and to find that was not at all easy, but we managed. The place was 15 km out off town, and we resolved to do a little tourism. We did so but it was not at all easy to find our way to Acropolis with bus train and metro, and worse was it to come back again. And here Dora was fantastic to tell the right point to step off.

The job was done and we left Athens in a poring rain, but it got better.

This night we slept in the mountains near Lamia, and to day we stopped up at the beach near Volos, we need a rest, here it is a beautiful and calm place. This part of the year is strange all over we have a whole town fore ourselves full of well constructed houses all closed down.

Greece - Delphi

Nearly a week since I wrote last time and a lot as always has happened.

While living Meteora we looked for an interesting way to Athens, looking at the map we noticed a green road, which should be a scenic road. The one we took started at Karditsa-Sofades-Filia-Kedros-Fourna-Agh. Nicolas-Kricolo-Dominista-Arachova-Kledpa-Ano Hora and finally Nafpaktos. All completely unknown names to us and most of my readers, names on our map but unfortunately also difficult to find on the road signs. It was a mess to find our way and often we lost it, several times we had to stop waiting to stop another car and ask for help and even that was difficult because of the language. But the landscape was really something fantastic, and we came high up about 1500 meter. Most of the road was good asphalt but some of the bends were so sharp that I had to stop and do them twice, if you understand what I mean?

At the Agh Nicolas we slept at the roadside, to wake up finding that the gas had run out and with the diesel at a low level we started the day with two problems. At Dominista we found a mini market and an Englishman to help us with the our problems, and it showed up that I was the devil who he gave me his little finger, beside his knowledge of the Greek language, which he spoke perfectly he was a computer specialist. To find such a person in this part of the world I had to take everything I could off. To post my dairies have been a constant problem, transferring the material from the pen to the blog in the Internet cafes, and here in Greece it just did not work out.

My new friend told me his first name was Hal and that he was married with a Greek woman and that they have a three years old son and live two years in Dominisat where they now are building a hotel.

We now found a nice place at a beach near Athens to bring the post in order.

Yesterday we passed Delphi and did the climbing at the site and took a lot of photos, and cross over hereto Elefsina.

A nice and calm place sunny and warm even the water is transparent and warm for swimming.

Greece - Meteora

At nine o’clock this morning we took off for Meteora, it is really something, The roads are very good and so are the parking lots along them.We visited one of the monasteries and took a lot of photos. Exactly now it started to rain and I sit with my Cp in the front of the BB hoping for better weather so we can go on with our investigation.

And we got a little better weather and all the photos.

Now the problem is to have them posted here in Meteora no luck. There is a lot of problems with the language and the different systems. Hope to have more luck in Tricala.

Greece

The ferry arrived earlier that we waited, and to get off was easy, but it was raining and dark so we found a place for the night in the proper harbor

After breakfast we took an unknown road without rain it started as motor road but soon it changed to a very winding mountain road, but well asphalted. It showed to be a bit of a job to trawled it. The landscape was really breathtaking and so we came to the first Greek town Ioannina.

We found a place near at the lake beach and after a walk and some sightseeing we took off for another mountain climbing nearly all at a 30km/h speed and yesterday we came to the tourist town Meteora. Here we resolved to go into a camping to use there facilities to get some clothes washed. It should happen to start raining again witch is no good for our washing, so here we sit hoping for a better weather and get the clothes dried.

Just time to tell a story:
This place I remember from fifty years ago, when I came this way on my motorcycle. As I told before the plan was to go to Egypt, but I only managed to come to Tunis at the border to Libya they discovered that I had second passport with a visa to Israel - so I had to take the away back and I took to Athena and from here up thru Yugoslavia. And the road passed Meteora and I got surprised to see the mountains and the monasteries and of course I took a lot of photos, and took of. For the night I put my little tent up in some place which for my bad luck happen to be near a military installation.Thei asked me take off and so I did, but it seemed not to be long enough because the next morning a couple of soldiers kindly asked me to come with them an officer wanted to speak with me , and I told him that I had no idea were I was and that I absolutely was no spy.OK he let me off but asked me to give a soldier a lift to the nearest town, so I believed ,but the idea was out of the contry.Coming to the town I took off without him .And after another two days coming to the frontier there a very angry man was waiting for me, the result was they took my film exactly the one with the photos of the monasteries

Tomorrow hoping for better whether I hope to be able to take a lot of photos just like thousands have done during all this fifty years.

On the ferry to Greece

We are now on board the ferry to Greece. It is unfortunately raining today.

Yesterday we left MG after a long walk at the beach and took the autoestrada directly to Brindisy were it was easy to find the way to the ferry. The night we passed at a beach nearby and this morning we enter the ship without any problem, there are very few passengers at this time of the year. We could stay at the BB were we made our own food, and we are traveling during the day. I am preparing this sitting in the BB, very comfortable.

South of Italy

From Pompeii we took the autoestrada to Salerno and here I took the wrong road and happened to end in Avelino before I noticed my mistake,and to come the right way again we hade to take a lot of secondary roads up and down through plenty of bends, but the asphalt was good and so was the BB and we happened to see another part of Italy.The route went over Montemorano-Muro Larano and finally Potenza through very beautiful landscapes the photos will show you that. From Potenza it was one straight autoestrada down to the sea , were we have a whole beach and town Marina Ginosa for our self.

I had luck with the internet point here; the owner helped me with the use of the Penn.

And the beach it is just wonderful, very clean and the water the warmest we have had until now. The Marina Ginosa is right in the arch of the Italian foot.

Italy - Napoli and Pompeii

And September passed.

And we went on. On the way to Napoli we stopped up for two nights at a nice beach, and from here on to Napoli and further on to Pompeii,and here for the first time we stopped up in a camping, were I am now putting this down.
